Yoga has become popular internationally. This art started in the Indian region from the early 20th century and has spread widely to many other regions. This is a philosophy system and also an old system of mental plus physical disciplines. It normally combines 3 activities namely postures, relaxation techniques plus breathing exercises. This makes yoga particularly beneficial to people with heart diseases, hypertension and diabetes.

Some mild yoga activities that focus on breathing and relaxation have been observed to considerably inhibit and minimize the spread of breast cancer. This is a discovery that has received wide attention and interest especially from the medical field. Further exploration into this could significantly reduce the cost of treatment of breast cancer in the future.

The art is also known to calm the nervous system, by establishing a balance between the body, mind and spirit. This balance cultivates a vibrant health and creates a state of mind characterized by profound wisdom, calm and peace. This state keeps the bodily energy meridians open, and life energy flowing.

For best results, one is advised to practice this art under a teacher who is experienced. If it is not carefully practiced it may cause a few injuries including bulging of the inter-vertebral discs, carotid arteries tears, hyper-extension of neck, ganglion cysts and rotator-cuff injuries. If it is well practiced, it can be of great benefit to the whole body.

The art has become very popular globally and is practiced by individuals regardless of their age, race or gender. It is actually gaining popularity like its other counterparts taekwondo, kung-fu and judo. One of the reasons that makes it so popular is that it enables one to explore the mind and the powers hidden therein.
