Cleaners Tips on Cleaning Bathrooms

I am not sure I have come across anyone who enjoys cleaning the bathroom, not even experienced cleaners, unfortunately everybody uses the family bathroom so this is one area that really cannot be left.

As a cleaner I try and tackle this job first as it can be actually the easiest to clean as baths and toilets can come up really well, all you need is a good pair of rubber gloves and the right products and it is fairly easy.

Some of the things you need will be familiar to you, bulk standard window cleaner a squeegee and some dry rags to cover all the mirrors. Most people have more than one.

Some vinegar for the shower head together with some tooth picks, just in case the jets are blocked, some good old disinfectant and bleach, especially if you are not sure how dirty the area is.

Some good old cotton rags and a tooth brush or nail brush are also very useful to take out those really tough stains, some baking soda and lemon mix 50/50. If not use a good commercial cleaner.

So get an old box and clear the bathroom of any unwanted junk giving your self room to clean, get rid of clothing put any cosmetics etc into the box to give yourself as much working room as possible.

Start at the top and if the shower is blocked allow the head to sit in a bag of ordinary vinegar while you get on and start cleaning down the mirrors, but make sure you only immerse as much of the shower head as you need as vinegar will sometimes take off some chrome. If the bath or shower has a full length mirror then instead of using a rag use a rubber wiper that you use for windows.

Use the mix of baking soda and lemon or commercial cleaner for your taps and use the tooth brush to go around the base. If you have some bad stains in the bath or sink take your bleach with some water and cover the stains for up to 15 minutes before cleaning away with water.

Take the shower head out of the bag flush through with water and use the tooth picks to clean out any blocked jets, clean the sink and bath down wipe dry and that leaves you with the toilet.

Clean the seat and outside surfaces with disinfectant, flush the cistern a few times to make sure you have clean water in the pan and use a toilet brush to push the water out and get the level a low as possible, then spray bleach or a good commercial cleaner down the pan and use the sponges soaked in disinfectant or bleach to clean out the pan and flush through with water. Flush the whole thing through two to three times using the toilet brush to clean the parts still covered in water.

You are now left with the floor - use hot water with added disinfectant and mop down or wash the area as you are leaving the bathroom, then go back and dry off with the cotton rags then that is job done.
